Picking the perfect college that’ll suit your educational needs can be a daunting task. But no need to fret, because the selection process just became a little bit easier.
According to Blavity, a student at Grambling State University created an app that’ll tailor your decision on selecting the correct Historically Black College or University (HBCU) to attend. Junior student, Jonathan Swindell, originally drafted the idea as a virtual place where likeminded individuals at HBCUs could connect with their peers. But the 21-year-old Los Angeles native realized that providing an outlet where users can receive all the information on HBCUs before they commit to a school would be more beneficial.
“It’s a lot easier to get information on a PWI,” Swindell shared with the Southern Digest. “They’re a lot bigger and have a lot more resources behind them, whereas at an HBCU, the information can be a bit scattered, so I saw a pain point within our community and HBCU HUB serves to fix that.” You can peruse the app on Android and iTunes.
Through HUB Packs, a free service that provides a questionnaire to make the selection process as smooth as possible, users will “answer questions such as, are you ‘High School Faculty, High School Student, Transfer Student, Graduate Student,’ from there we make the transition easy by sending the information they need to apply for said HBCU of interest,” Swindell adds. “This is just an example of how our organization has left no stone un-turned in hopes to benefit any and everyone.”
There are over 100 HBCUs in the nation. Cheyney University of Pennsylvania reigns as the oldest institution, establishing its roots in 1837.
